Brazil registered yet another record year for poultry meat exports in 2024, with South Africa its fifth largest customer.
The annual export statistics were published by the Poultry Site after being released by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Brazil’s poultry exports in 2025 could push the record export total even higher, according to Ricardo Santin, ABPA president.
“The indicators remain positive for 2025, with possibilities of new monthly increases and projections of numbers relatively higher than those achieved in the previous year, indicating the maintenance of the profitability of the sector’s agribusinesses,” Santin said.
In the ranking of the main importers of chicken meat from Brazil in 2024 (January to December), China ended the year in first place with 562.2 thousand tons (-17.6% compared to the previous year).
Second was the United Arab Emirates, with 455.1 thousand tons (+3.3%), followed by Japan, with 443.2 thousand tons (+2.2%) and Saudi Arabia, with 370.8 thousand tons (-1.6%).
South Africa was the fifth largest buyer of Brazilian poultry meat, with 325.4 thousand tons (-4.4%), ahead of the Philippines, with 234.8 thousand tons (+7%), the European Union, with 231.9 thousand tons (+6.9%), Mexico, with 212.5 thousand tons (+22.6%), Iraq, with 179.8 thousand tons (+18.1%) and South Korea, with 155.8 thousand tons (-22.8%).
