A false claim that resurfaced during discussion on import delays is the assertion that no mechanically deboned meat (MDM) is made in this country and it all has to be imported for the manufacture of processed meats such as polony.
This is a favourite line of importers, and now it has been repeated by the South African Meat Processors Association, who should know better.
MDM is not produced in South Africa at all, CEO Peter Gordon told Business Insider.
Maybe he should talk to RCL foods, which has been making its own MDM for years for use in its popular chicken polony.
