A favourite South African street food consists of chicken feet and necks. They are known appropriately as “walkie-talkies”.
Now a young entrepreneur has produced canned walkie-talkies, which are being stocked nationwide by Shoprite, a leading supermarket chain.
The entrepreneur, Eiren Drake, runs a canning factory in Tzaneen, in the northern province of Limpopo. He said he grew up the rural area, and knew the appeal of walkie-talkies.
“It was then that I was first introduced to the widely loved and consumed dish of chicken feet, which very quickly became one of my favourite means – and it still is today,” the told The Star newspaper.
His canned walkie-talkies are being billed as a world first.
