South Africans love KFC

South Africa is the fifth largest market for KFC in the world, according to the company’s owner, Yum! Brands in the United States.

The Daily Investor said Yum! reported that China was KFC’s largest market with 9 917 stores. Second is the US, with 3890 and third is Japan, with 1 210 stores. Thailand is fourth, whose 1 053 stores are only one ahead of South Africa.

South Africa’s 1 052 KFC stores put it well ahead of the United Kingdom (1 001), India (950), Malaysia (770) and Australia (759 stores).

KFC was launched in South Africa in 1971, and has grown by 44 stores in the past year. Of the 1 052 stores in the country, 49 are directly owned by KFC and the remaining 1 003 are franchisee-owned.
