A master plan to save SA’s sugar industry has been approved by the South African Government.
SA’s sugar sector has been in crisis due to a flood of predatory imports, plunging prices, persistent droughts and a drop in demand due to the sugar tax.
The South African government has pledged to work with sugarcane growers and millers “to develop sustainable solutions for the industry”. The master plan, which has been in development for almost a year, will now be “actioned” for implementation.
