FairPlay is delighted to have two of its importer-supporting critics agree that chicken dumping is happening, that it’s damaging, that it’s wrong and that it must be stopped.
That’s what we’ve been saying for the past five years, to great opposition from chicken importers. The head of the Association of Meat Importers and Exporters (AMIE) has stated that dumping stopped in 2015.
Now David Wolpert, a retired importer executive, and Anthony Peerie, a vocal critic of FairPlay, have written to Business Day to say that dumping must end. That’s real progress, even if they fail to see great damage or a continuing threat.
That point was made by FairPlay founder Francois Baird in a letter to Business Day. He also notes that importers opposing anti-dumping duties are trying to protect their profits, while poultry producers are trying to defend an entire industry.
