Bizcommunity reported that South Africa is fast becoming one of the emerging markets for medicinal cannabis cultivation. This has happened since the cultivation of medicinal cannabis was decriminalised in 2018.
With farming expertise and a trained agricultural workforce, South Africa has the potential to supply competitively priced medicinal cannabis products to the rest of the world.
One innovation is the potential for crowd funding to help small and medium-sized farmers manage the transition from traditional farming to medicinal cannabis. The is being promoted by Germany-based Juicy Fields, the main sponsor of a cannabis expo to be held in Cape Town later this month and in other centres later this year.
As we reported in November last year, South Africa’s agriculture minister, Thoko Didiza, is aiming for a cannabis master plan centred on the production of hemp, which is used to make a variety of commercial and industrial products.
