Bird flu bans imposed since 2017 have severely limited EU poultry exports to SA, and they are down again by 67% in the first quarter of this year.
South Africa has also increased poultry tariffs and implemented anti-dumping duties, and is undertaking a review of its poultry sector trade policy.
epamonitoring.net advises other countries to learn from South Africa’s example, and look at implementing the same import controls that the EU does, including non-tariff measures.
