In its results presentation for the year ended September 2023, Astral Foods showed that imports had a bigger market share over that period than any local producer.
Imports took 23% of the market, ahead of Astral (21%), RCL Foods (16%) and Country Bird (9%).
Local chicken production was 20 million birds per week, while imports had averaged 6 million birds per week in the year to September, Astral said.
